Who we are
Carnation Theatre was formed in early 2009 by Mairead Devlin and Mary O'Driscoll and provides interactive, groundbreaking theatre for people in care settings, in libraries, museums, even in your front room! We aim to provide meaningful theatre, relevant to the life experience of our audience and tailored to their abilities. A carnation theatre show is highly interactive, promoting communication between performer and audience but also within the audience itself. Inclusivity, breaking down barriers between generations, between cultures, using their life experiences and making it part of the performance is what Carnation Theatre is all about. We have a presence in the four corners of the country and have an appetite for new challenges!
"A very uplifting for Carers and Clients alike!...." (Bealtaine 2013)
What we do
Each Carnation show is a one hour, two hander, interactive play featuring live music, puppetry and mobile, innovative sets. A Carnation audience experience a piece of live theatre in the comfort of their own environment be it a nursing home, day centre or library. Because it is so audience driven - they take on roles, sing songs - they end up having a very intense, pleasurable experience.
"The clients really interact with the performance, even some who are normally very disconnected" (Cork, 2012)
